Coil Unit - Ceramics 1


Ceramics 1 students will be making a coil construction that is approximately twelve inches tall or more, and contains negative space.  We viewed these videos in class for inspiration.

Ceramics 2/3 - Sgraffito

Sgraffito is a decorating pottery technique produced by applying layers of underglazes or colored slips to leather hard pottery and then scratching off parts of the layers to create contrasting images, patterns and texture and reveal the clay color underneath.

(This piece is leather hard and painted with underglaze. The sgraffito technique has been used to make a creative design. The piece will be bisque fired, clear glazed and fired for a second time to create a shiny finish.)

Pinching

We just started out Pinch Unit!  Students are making pinch pots with a foot for their first assignment.
